What's new in Blips 1.4.1

Siri, Spotlight and the app icon now bring your subscriptions to you, Apple Intelligence finds a service's prices as you add it, and the history charts respond to your touch.

Keeping track of your subscriptions has always meant opening an app and looking. With Blips 1.4.1, a good deal of it no longer does. Your subscriptions now turn up in Spotlight, Siri can answer questions about them, and a long press on the app icon takes you straight to adding a new one. When you do add one, Apple Intelligence can bring you the service’s current prices, so there is nothing to look up first.

Inside the app, the history views have been redesigned around touch. Charts now snap from point to point under your finger, with a small haptic tap at each step, and a few of them answer questions they could not answer before.

New

Price Suggestions, with Apple Intelligence

Adding a subscription used to mean knowing the price before you started, or leaving the app to go and find it. Now, as you add a service, Blips reads that service’s own pricing page and offers its plans as options you can pick straight away: the monthly plan, the yearly one, a family tier, whatever the service sells.

The page is fetched directly from your iPhone, so the prices you see are the ones the service shows in your country. Suggestions are only ever offered, never filled in for you, and nothing is looked up when you edit a subscription you already have. Nothing about you or your other subscriptions goes along with the request, and none of it ever reaches us. The privacy policy explains each step in full.

Price Suggestions works on iPhones that support Apple Intelligence. It is on by default, and you can turn it off at any time in the app’s Settings, under Apple Intelligence & Siri.

Siri and Shortcuts

You can now ask Siri about your subscriptions without opening the app at all. Ask what you are paying this month, what is due soon, when a particular charge is coming up, or which free trials are about to end. Siri knows your subscriptions by name, so you can ask about any one of them directly.

The same questions are available as actions in the Shortcuts app, ready to build into routines of your own. Blips answers on your device, from the data that is already there, and there is no Siri permission to grant first.

Your subscriptions now appear in Spotlight. Swipe down on the Home Screen, start typing the name of a service, and it shows up among your results. Tap it, and it opens right in Blips.

The index lives only on your device and stays current as you make changes. If you would rather Blips stayed out of Search, you can switch it off in your iPhone’s Settings, under Apps, then Blips.

A monthly progress you can explore

The monthly progress on the Home screen is no longer just something to look at. Slide your finger along it and each charge comes up in turn: what it is, how much it costs, and the day it lands. It is the quickest way to run through the rest of the month without leaving the Home screen.

Add Subscription, from the app icon

Long press the Blips icon on your iPhone’s Home Screen and choose Add Subscription to go straight to adding a new one. It is a small shortcut, but it means a subscription you have just signed up for can go in while it is still fresh in your mind.

Improved

History you can feel

  • Price History and Share History have been redesigned, and Billing History has been refreshed, with its labels placed where they are easier to read.
  • Chart scrubbing now snaps from one point to the next as you drag, with haptic feedback at each step, so you always know exactly which point you are reading.
  • Status History has a new chart. It shows how long each status lasted, so a three-month pause reads as exactly that, and it gives the same haptic feedback as you scrub across it.

Billing History

  • Your total so far, at a glance. The Billing History row on a subscription’s screen now shows how much you have spent on it to date, before you even open it.
  • Your share comes first. For a shared subscription, Billing History now opens on your own share, which is usually the number you came for. A My share / Full price switch flips to the whole bill and back.
  • No more empty chips. The “this year” chip is now hidden when a subscription has had no charges in the current year, rather than appearing with nothing to show.
